Function of F keys on keyboard is to perform Different Actions. there are 12 function Keys on your keyboard and on Laptop Keyboard. these Keys are located in very top of your keyboard, starting from F1 to F12, so these are called F1-F12 Function Keys.
what are function Keys:
As i said that these keys are used to perform Different Actions on Different Programs, these Functions Keys can perform action either by pressing them alone or by combination with Another key Such as Ctrl, Alt, Shift or Window Key.
Function of F Keys:
Here is the list of Some Actions, you can perform with F1-F12 Function Keys.
F1:
Pressing f1 in Almost Every Program will open Help Windows of that program.
Pressing F1 Key in Desktop or in Windows Explorer Will open Microsoft Help and Support Centre.
When You are on a Program, A key Combination of Windows Key + F1 will also open Microsoft Help and Support Centre.
Pressing F1 Will open Task pane.
When You Turn On your Computer, Pressing F1 will open BIOS Setup. (In Some Computers)
F2:
It will Rename Already Highlighted Icon.
In Microsoft Office, A key Combination of Ctrl + Alt + F2 Will Open, Open Document Window.
A key Combination of Ctrl + F2 will open Print Preview in Microsoft Office.
F2 used to Enter in BIOS Setup. (In Some Computers)
F3:
When you are on desktop, Pressing F3 will open Files and Folder Search Window.
In Windows Explorer, F3 also Used to open FIles and Folder Search. (Ctrl + F will do the same)
Almost in All Web Browsers, F3 used to open Find Bar. (Also Ctrl +F)
In Windows Command Prompt, F3 will Repeat Last Command.
In Microsoft Office, Shift + F3 will change Lower Letters to Capital Letters, or Capital Letters to Lower Letters, or it will convert Each Words First letter to Capital, Like aaaa, AAAA, Aaaa.
F4:
Used to Perform Last Action i Microsoft Ofice.
A key Combination of Alt + 4 will close Current Window.
When you are on Desktop, and there is no Active Windows, Alt + F4 will open ShutDown Window.
Ctrl + F4 will Close Current Tab in Web Browsers.
When you are in Windows Explorer, F4 will Brings you to Address Bar.

F5 will Refresh Desktop and Windows Explorer.
In All Web Browsers, F5 will Reload the Current Tab.

F6:

F8:
F8 will starts Windows in Safe Windows, this features is Used in Startup of your Computer.
F9:
F9 used to update Email folders in Microsoft Outlook, and such other Email clients.
F10:
Shift + F10 open right click menu in Microsoft Internet Explorer And in Mozilaa Firefox.
Shift + F10 also used to open Right Click Menu in Highlighted Folder or File.

Shift + F11 will add a New Sheet, and Ctrl + F11 will add a New macro in Microsoft Excel.
